Winter Season Activities

There are many winter holiday activities in and around the town of Vrchlabí: For downhill skiers.

Špindlerův Mlýn, the biggest ski resort in the Czech Republic is located just 15km away. There you can enjoy many kilometres of downhill ski slopes, served by modern chair-lifts.

Herlíkovice-Bubákov, are just 3km away and can be reached using the regular bus-service from Vrchlabí.

For beginners or young children we would recommend either Kněžický vrch , both being close to our house, easily accessible, and ideally suited to beginners.

Some other ski areas close to Vrchlabí areStrážné, Benecko, Černá Hora, Černý důl. Further away (about 30 km) are Pec pod Sněžkou, Vysoké nad Jizerou, Vítkovice. Vrchlabí in the winter is a haven for cross-country skiers too. On the southern edge of town near the main road is Vejsplachy, with groomed trails of varying lengths. The trails are maintained in good condition through the winter. Excellent conditions for cross-country skiers can be found in the well-known Horní Mísečky area, some 20km fromVrchlabí, where you can find racing trails groomed daily throughout the winter, as well as many „touristic“ trails which stretch right across the surrounding mountains.

The trails in Benecko are in themselves worth a visit, and are more interesting still as they are connected to the trails at Mísečky.

If you prefer hiking or walking with children we would recommend locally the Žalý mountain, where there is an observation tower with views over the surrounding landscape, as far as Zvičina and Jested. At nearby Herlíkovice, there is a chairlift which runs up to the top of Žalý. You can find more information on www.hory.cz.
